The public transport network in Paris is very well developed. Every point in the city and the region can be easily reached by public transport. There are special tickets for tourists that allow inexpensive travel.

Tickets, routes and stations Information

Paris has a great public transport network

Local public transport in Paris is operated by RATP. In a line network, you have the greatest possible mobility on buses and trams. The RATP is connected to the VBN-Land transport association and thus also offers the opportunity to reach the region and the surrounding area with a uniform tariff area. The Pariser Verkehrsbetriebe (RATP) provides public transport services throughout the city of Paris. The public transportation RATP keeps the city running 365 days a year. The city has an extensive public transportation network consisting of bus services, trams that provide convenient access to the entire city and the surrounding region. Here you can find everything you need to know about Paris's fare zones, ticket prices and purchase options. Find also a Paris city map and the line network and of course a timetable, as well as an individual route planner.

Paris can be easily and cheaply explored by bus. With around 50 lines including Montmartrobus, you are spoiled for choice. An original and meaningful way to get to know the city with all its facets like a real Parisian. The big novelty: The subway currently runs until 2.15 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and before public holidays. And to complement the public transport offer, the RATP also rents out bicycles! La Traverse, a RATP minibus line, runs through certain districts of the capital and offers the opportunity to get to know Parisian life better.

Metro and RER
To get around Paris as effectively as possible, you should use the metro. The metro network is the fastest form of public transport with 14 lines and around 300 metro stations.

The first metro starts at 5.30 a.m., the last at 1.15 a.m. (on Fridays, Saturdays and before public holidays until 2.15 a.m.). The entrances to the metro are labeled Metro, Metropolitain or just the letter M. Each line differs in its specific color, number and direction of travel.

The numerous connections to the trains of the RER (network of regional express trains) and to the long-distance train stations of the SNCF give you a connection to the suburbs of Paris. The five lines (A, B, C, D and E) of the Réseau Express Régional (RER) cross Paris and the Ile-de-France at the same time as the metro.

Buses and trams
The bus network in and around Paris is well developed. Around 350 bus routes operate - each stop is marked with the name and number of the stopping bus. Entry is always at the front, the ticket must be shown to the driver or validated, and exit is through the back door of the bus. The bus driver is informed of the wish to disembark by pressing a red button and the “Arrêt demandé” signal lights up above the driver's cab.

At night from 0.30 a.m. to 5.30 a.m., the "Noctilien" - 42 night bus routes connect Paris from 5 transfer stations (Place du Châtelet and the 4 stations) with the surrounding area. All lines are marked with the letter N.

There are currently 3 tram lines operating in Paris. The T1 line from Gare de Saint-Denis to Noisy-le-Sec. The T2 line runs from La Défense with the Porte de Versailles and the Parc des Expositions. The T3 tram line connects Pont du Garigliano and Porte d'Ivry. The stops are all marked with a T that can be seen from afar.
