Local public transport in Dresden is operated by VVO. In a line network, you have the greatest possible mobility on buses and trams. The VVO is connected to the VBN-Land transport association and thus also offers the opportunity to reach the region and the surrounding area with a uniform tariff area. The Dresdener Verkehrsbetriebe (VVO) provides public transport services throughout the city of Dresden. The public transportation VVO keeps the city running 365 days a year. The city has an extensive public transportation network consisting of bus services, trams that provide convenient access to the entire city and the surrounding region. Find also a Dresden city map and the line network and of course a timetable, as well as an individual route planner.

Local public transport in Dresden and the region
The Upper Elbe transport association connects the area with Dresden. The surrounding cities and communities are easily accessible.

S-Bahn Dresden
Three Dresden S-Bahn lines connect the state capital Dresden with the larger communities in the Upper Elbe Valley:

S1: Meißen to Schöna via Pirna (Saxon Switzerland)
S2: Dresden Hauptbahnhof to Dresden Airport
S3: Dresden main station to Tharandt via Freital

The Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe has a uniform tariff. One ticket can be used to reach bus, ferry and mountain stops. You just have to pay attention to the respective tariff zone. For tourists, we recommend the family day ticket, which is valid for 2 adults and 4 children for 24 hours. Tickets are available at kiosks, machines and ticket sales points. With the Dresden City Card you can travel for 48 hours on all lines and Elbe ferries in the city area. The Dresden Regio Card is valid for 72 hours and also offers free travel on the S-Bahn and local trains of the Deutsche Bahn in the Upper Elbe Transport Association.

Mountain railway & Elbe ferries:

cable railway
The Loschwitz mountain railways are particularly attractive. Since 1895, the 547-meter-long Loschwitz funicular has been connecting the Weißer Hirsch district 95 meters higher. The suspension cable car has been running from Loschwitz to Oberloschwitz since 1901. Two passenger cars each hang on a 256-meter-long support rail and are moved by a rope at a height of 84 meters. The valley stations of the mountain railways are located at Körnerplatz. Both only need five minutes to overcome the height difference of the Elbe slope. The funicular runs from Körnerplatz (Mon-Fri 6.30 a.m.-9 p.m., Sat / Sun 9 a.m.-11 p.m.) to the Weißen Hirsch and from the Pillnitzer Landstraße (Mon-Fri 6.30 a.m.-7 p.m., Sat / Sun until 9 p.m.) the suspension railway to Oberloschwitz .
