Barcelona has a great public transport network

Local public transport in Barcelona is operated by TMB. In a line network, you have the greatest possible mobility on buses and trams. The TMB is connected to the VBN-Land transport association and thus also offers the opportunity to reach the region and the surrounding area with a uniform tariff area. The Barcelonaer Verkehrsbetriebe (TMB) provides public transport services throughout the city of Barcelona. The public transportation TMB keeps the city running 365 days a year. The city has an extensive public transportation network consisting of bus services, trams that provide convenient access to the entire city and the surrounding region. Here you can find everything you need to know about Barcelona's fare zones, ticket prices and purchase options. Find also a Barcelona city map and the line network and of course a timetable, as well as an individual route planner.

Local public transport in Barcelona is operated by TMB - Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (Barcelona Public Transport Company). The Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona operates a very dense network of subways (Metro) and buses, as well as six tram lines, which are also called Trambaix and Trambesòs.

There are a total of 6 zones in the line network, most of the sights are in zone 1 and 2. Most of the sights are all within walking distance. In the vicinity of Placa Catalunya there are many bike rental stations, so that as an alternative to sightseeing you can switch to a bike.

If you want to explore the region, you can use the S-Bahn from RENFE and the Catalan state railway Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC). The S-Bahn is also called Rodalies.

METRO
The METRO route network is relatively well developed and practically every point in the city can be reached with the subway. Unfortunately, lines L6 and L7 are not operated by TMB. At the underground stations Catalunya and Diagonal you have to accept longer distances when changing trains.

FUNCTIONAL RAILWAY
Funiculars lead to Tibidabo, Montjuïc and Vallvidrera, the journeys have to be paid extra here as they are not included in the tariff system.

TRAM
There are now six tram lines in Barcelona, which complement the dense METRO network in their timetables.

City buses
The bus network is also very dense and leads to all parts of the city. They also harmonize with the METRO timetables.

TICKETS & 'TARIFFS
For occasional drivers, it is worth buying a single ticket for a one-way trip on the METRO or the bus. A single trip on the metro costs € 2. A 10 trip ticket (T 10), which can be bought for € 10, can also be worthwhile. The tickets can also be used on buses and trams.

For tourists and visitors to the city, it is worth buying the Barcelona Card, which gives you unlimited use of public transport for the duration of your stay. The Barcelona Card also gives you discounts on sights, museums and attractions.

TICKET SALE
Tickets can be bought at all ticket machines in the TMB network, which can usually be found in the entrance area of the underground stations. You can pay in cash or with a credit card. Another way to buy tickets is at the Punt TMB Information and Customer Service Centers.
